Vikasa Yoga Academy is fully accredited for both 200-hour foundation and 500-hour advanced certifications. The certificate you’ll receive on graduation day will allow you to teach yoga anywhere in the world. A 200-hour course is considered a standard foundation in yoga teacher training schools worldwide, which is a good way for intermediate yoga practitioners to make significant progress in their journey. Alongside other certified YTT schools, Vikasa yoga offers a 300-hour advanced training program (some other schools offer a 500-hour program, as we do, but we also allow this to be taken as the separate 200 and 300-hour courses, which combine to cover the curriculum of the 500-hour program). Â
When you complete our 200 hour YTT program, you will receive certification from the Yoga Alliance that considers you a qualified yoga teacher, certified on an international basis as an instructor able to teach students safely and effectively. The five week or 300-hour course consists of three modules that are 100 hours each and is registered with the Yoga Alliance. Graduates (who must complete the full 300 hours) will be given a RYT-500 certification upon successful completion of the course. Most yoga studios prefer to hire teachers who have taken multiple trainings or training at an advanced level. In order to qualify to teach yoga anywhere you will need a minimum of 200 hour certification. Â

This 100-hour immersion is suitable for qualified teachers who have had a prolonged break from yoga teaching and need to top-up their existing techniques or who wish to rediscover the positive mental energy they found previously at our retreat.
Before taking our 100-hour yoga teacher training course, we recommend preparing by taking the free online courses provided by whichever Vikasa instructor you will be working with. Watching these instructional videos will enable you to understand their particular communication and instruction style and allow you to become attuned to their training methodology before embarking upon your immersive yoga teacher training course at our retreat.
If you are considering attending an advanced 300-hour course, it may be ideal to undertake a 200-hour yoga teacher training foundation course in the same location to benefit from continuity of style, philosophy and focus. The resulting 500 hours of intensive yoga teacher training will provide the ideal platform to earn a living as a confident, well-informed yoga instructor.
While those who have never taken yoga classes before may find it too advanced, we encourage students who are near-beginners or who have recently started their discovery of yoga to take our 200-hour yoga teacher training course. It will be necessary to have a basic understanding and recent practice of yoga before arriving, but we will provide tuition that builds upon this basic foundation and addresses any areas that require particular assistance and focus.
So that we can be sure that students receive the most out of their Vikasa yoga experience, we ask that students of limited experience undertake a foundation course such as our 200-hour course before considering the more challenging path of our advanced 300-hour yoga teacher training program.
For near beginners, the learning curve is steep, but it is a source of pride and personal achievement that will result in a dramatic transition and overall understanding of the methodology and philosophy of Vikasa yoga teacher training. The techniques that you learn will be include a strong focus on asana. We will help with your alignment, breathing and sequencing on over 200 asana yoga positions to ensure that you achieve maximum benefit and learn safe techniques. You will learn how to instruct in correct balance and posture, teaching others how to improve their flexibility and strength, as well as mental and spiritual health.
Also, of key importance is instruction in pranayama. Through exercises including kapalaphati, nadi sodhana, ujjai, and square pranayama, you will learn how to control rhythmic energy effectively to achieve a healthy body and mind, purifying the lungs and nerve currents, synchronising brain hemispheres, and reducing anxiety.

As part of the advanced YTT course, we will deepen the practice of yoga asanas, and explore the evolution of asanas and sequencing from the classical scriptures of Hatha Yoga Pradipika.
The training will focus specifically on the proper sequencing, simplification and modification of asanas, advanced asana practice and achieving different energetic, mental and emotional effects with various modes of sequencing and practice, and how to balance the energetic effect of asanas.
In the second part of the advanced teacher training, we explore the meaning of the energy and life-giving force of prana, the life force energy, and how to control parana through specialist breathing techniques.
Providing an in-depth understanding of breath control and breath retentions, students can experience the benefits of pranayama and energetic locks, learning the theory and philosophy taught by ancient yogis in India.
