The WHY Behind Mentorship
Vikasa has always been built on the premise of evolution. As humans, as yoga practitioners and as yoga teachers, we are designed to be constantly evolving, learning new skills, discovering new elements of ourselves and sharing this newfound wisdom, ideas and experience with those around us.
However, it’s very easy to become stagnant. The modern world cocoons us in comfort and routine. We fall into patterns in our day to day lives, and as yoga teachers, we settle into familiar asanas and sequences that we offer out of ease and comfort.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with trusted class plans and repetition, many of our yoga students return again and again simply because they appreciate and even crave this quality, consistency and familiarity.
However, your growth enables your students to grow too.

Of course, there is nothing wrong with trusted class plans and repetition, many of our yoga students return again and again simply because they appreciate and even crave this quality, consistency and familiarity.
However, your growth enables your students to grow too.
The more you push your own boundaries and evolve, so too do you extend pathways for your students to follow suit in their own transformation.
As you bring out the best in yourself, you enable others to do the same.
As yoga teachers, we all have goals, we have ideas around the teacher we would love to be, we have aspects of our teaching skills that we are really proud of, and other elements that we long to gain more strength and confidence around.
Simultaneously, being a yoga teacher comes with demanding schedules, and oftentimes, juggling other jobs or careers, family and friends, commitments and responsibilities. Seeking time for personal growth and development can be challenging.
At Vikasa we want to help yoga teachers to grow and refine their teaching and skillset in a way that is simple, supportive and impactful.
Which is why we developed the Vikasa Mentorship Program

Learn From Our Senior Vikasa YTT Teachers
After many decades of running yoga teacher training programs and being deeply immersed in the yoga industry, we’ve developed a mentorship program that isn’t based on a cookie-cutter approach.
We know that all yoga teachers are unique - you have your own goals, your own dreams, and specific areas of your teaching or business that you would love support with.
This program is catered to meet you where you are at and guide you to discover your authentic voice, to master your skills as a teacher and to position yourself as a leader, allowing you to make the positive impact you have always dreamed of.
The mentorship also counts as 25 hours of Continuing Education with Yoga Alliance.
Sessions
6 x one hour sessions over 6 months via zoom working one on one with the mentor best suited to your focus points. This can be done from anywhere in the world organised around a time that works with your schedule. In the introductory session you will share your main goals and your mentor will structure the program to ensure you have the support and gain the results you are seeking. The only prerequisite for the program is that you hold a 200hr YTT certification. Your goals may be focused more on developing your teaching skills, or launching, diversifying or expanding your yoga business. We will meet you where you are.
Videos
You will submit 3 videos of you teaching a class (at home) to your mentor. This allows them to give you really detailed feedback on your teaching and help you to develop in the areas you may feel require extra work and refinement. This may be around things such as cueing, language, demonstration, alignment, modifications, presence, theming, class structure, voice, body language, etc. If you have a specific area of focus, your mentor will work with you to transform and strengthen your teaching skills. You will be amazed at how much you can grow as a teacher through these video feedback sessions.
Homework
The homework provided will differ from mentor to mentor, but may include things such as journal prompts, practice teaching, developing a draft of a business plan for a new offering, curating a playlist, working on class themes, practicing cueing or breathing exercises, doing your own self practice etc. The homework shouldn't take up more than an hour or so a week but will provide you with a framework to continue learning, growing and advancing between sessions. The homework will also be based on personal development, helping you to formulate routines and systems that support you as a yoga practitioner as well as a yoga teacher.
This program is perfect for new teachers looking to:
- Gain confidence as a yoga teacher and step in front of a yoga class with ease, grace and purpose.
- Develop classes that are powerful, accessible and transformational
- Learn how to develop a yoga community through sharing your unique teaching style and skillset
- Develop specific offerings such as private classes or online classes
- Deepen your understanding of specific elements of yoga, be it asana progression, meditation, pranayama, philosophy, anatomy, sequencing or adjustments.
- Understand how to create studio classes for all levels and how to approach studios for work opportunities
This is also perfect for more experienced and established yoga teachers who are looking to deepen their teaching and/or expand their offerings, including:
- How to teach more advanced classes and advanced asana, meditation and pranayama techniques with confidence
- How to find your ‘why’ as a teacher and how to deepen into your own unique gifts and magic as a yoga leader
- How to find your true voice and develop greater authenticity around your teachings and offerings
- How to develop, launch and run a yoga retreat, immersion, program or training
- How to build an online yoga studio from the ground up and gain consistent subscribers
- How to develop special workshops for yoga studios or classes for special events
- How to price your offerings to guarantee financial success and sustainability
These are just a handful of the requests we have received from our yoga teaching community over the years. Most importantly though, the mentorship program is structured around you, your needs and your goals. There is no prescribed formula and no set agenda. Your mentor will work with you to establish what you want to get out of the program and devise the sessions around these focal points.
