What I Will Learn - Your 300 Hour Curriculum
What I Will Learn

Evolution of Yoga – Kosta Miachin
Kosta refined his practice and teaching of yoga over two decades of experimentation with a number of styles and schools of yoga. The result of this experimentation and refinement is the Vikasa Method. In this module, “Evolution of Yoga”, Kosta leads practices (pranayama, kriya, meditation and asana) which are long and deep – the culmination of years of thoughtful practice, they are not simply physical practices but designed to work on all layers of the practitioner’s being, primarily the often forgotten energetic layer. The practices are physically and mentally challenging, and come with energetic payoffs hardly ever experienced in modern yoga. This module also includes a series of lectures in which Kosta traces the Vikasa Method back to the origins of yoga and situates it within that context and the relevant lineages. The lecture series also dives deep into the rationale behind the Vikasa Method providing a clear and scientific basis for all of the practices and an explanation of the effects.
You will learn:
- Advanced Asana
- Active Awareness Meditation
- Advanced Pranayama
- Kumbhaka - Retention of Breath
- Hatha Yoga Pradipika
- Intelligent Freestyle Sequencing
- Energetic Practice
- Mudra & Bandha

From Gross to Subtle – Rama & Shakti
Health and well-being of the physical body are paramount in pursuit of greater spiritual evolution. As students, Shakti and Rama have studied with circus performers, Ido Portal trained functional movers, contortionists and classical yogis alike. In their collective module, From Gross to Subtle, Shakti and Rama offer expertise and insight into the optimization of the physical body. Learn to build strength, increase flexibility, access greater coordination and more advanced expressions of yoga asana. Progress within the science of yoga moves from gross to subtle; physical to non-physical. This module builds from the ground up and serves as a stepping stone for greater growth. By optimizing physical ability, we begin to access a gateway to deeper experience and that which exists beyond the physical body.
You will learn:
- Handstands & Inversions
- Keys to Enhancing Flexibility & Mobility
- Functional & Mindful Movement
- Spinal Waves
- Scalable Modifications & Variations
- Physical Optimization Through Non-Physical Practices
- Bulletproofing the Body
- Holistic Maintenance

The Art of Sequencing – All Teachers
All Vikasa Senior Teachers have their own individual take on the Vikasa Methodology and Vikasa sequencing principles. In this module, the teachers explain their different interpretations and show you how to sequence effectively and creatively using this methodology but with your own unique flavour. Kosta explains the genesis of the “intelligent freestyle” method. Mikey shows how to create sequences within that framework that are anatomically intelligent as well as fun. And Niki & Michael show how more flowy, vinyasa-style classes can be sequenced using the same principles. The teachers present a clear framework for their approach so that students can understand and replicate in their own teaching.
You will learn:
- Intelligent Freestyle Sequencing
- Freedom Within Structure
- Creating a Balanced Practice
- Influencing Energy Through Attention
- Digital Balancing of Directions of Mobility
- Principles of Intelligent Sequencing
- Flow - Uninterrupted Attention
- Ha Tha Flow
- Dynamic Flow
- Chill Flow

Deepen & Diversify – Mikey Lazano
Mikey is interested and stimulated by deep physical practice as well as unique techniques and practice modalities that are no longer widely practised within the yoga community. In this module, “Deepen and Diversify”, Mikey takes us on a journey through both of these passions. In Deepen, Mikey leads practices that are complex and physically challenging, designed for advanced practitioners. In Diversify, he leads a series of unique practices (Cross Mat, Mudra/Bandha, Full Surya Namaskar, Partner Yoga) and runs workshops and lectures where these practices are broken down and explained for those wishing to practice in that way themselves. The basics of teaching these practices are also explained.
You will learn:
- Advanced Asana Practice
- Advanced Asana Breakdown
- Art of Adjustment
- Advanced assisting
- Cross Mat practice
- Mandala Vinyasa
- Partner Yoga
- Mudra & Bandha practice
- Energetic Practice
- Complete Surya Namaskar Practice

Higher Yoga – Alex Vyazovov
Alex presents ancient yogic wisdom in a way that is digestible for a modern mind, and thus helps students make their practice more meaningful.
Since all Yoga traditions agree that cultivating the right view is the key ingredient to success on the spiritual path, Alex places focus on Yoga philosophy, and offers meditative exercises that help to embody it.
You will learn:
- History of Yoga
- The Upanishads
- Samkhya Philosophy
- The Bhagavad-Gita
- Classical Yoga vs Tantric Yoga
- Karma, Awakening & Liberation
- Advanced Pranayama practices
- Advanced Meditation practices

Making Magic – Niki & Michael
“Making Magic” is a module designed to help teachers find (or rediscover) their inspiration and passion for practising and teaching yoga. Niki and Michael lead (and teach you to teach) “transformational experiences” that are not standard yoga asana practices – dynamic meditations, dance, eye-gazing, guided relaxations, group bonding sessions – but are powerful and transformative for practitioners, and unique and interesting offerings for those leading retreats, trainings or “special occasion” type classes. This module also includes detailed exposition of other key (but often forgotten) advanced teaching skills such as touch, voice and holding space.
You will learn:
- How to create magic yoga classes
- How to facilitate transformational experiences for your students
- How to create clear, intelligent, effective and powerful asana sequences
- How to effectively utilise touch, smell, voice, sound and presence in your teaching

The Vikasa Yoga Method
Our signature Foundation Yoga Teacher Training starts with a strong physical foundation, evolving into energetic, mental, emotional and spiritual practice.
Our signature Foundation Yoga Teacher Training starts with a strong physical foundation, evolving into energetic, mental, emotional and spiritual practice.
Key principles and rules of yoga are taught, allowing the teachers and dedicated practitioners to gain in-depth understanding, knowledge and insight into the methodology and the effects of yoga practice.
Key principles and rules of yoga are taught, allowing the teachers and dedicated practitioners to gain in-depth understanding, knowledge and insight into the methodology and the effects of yoga practice. Our approach encourages integration with society in a modern context. Our teaching modules each represent a pillar of the Vikasa Yoga Method: Mind, Body and Energy. These three pillars, when taught together, create a well-rounded yoga education with emphasis on the development of the individual.
The unique curriculum that has been tried and tested over the years, ever-evolving with lasting results.
Our approach is further defined by the 5 shells or layers known as “koshas” physical, energetic, emotional, mental and spiritual. We like to think of our curriculum as two “hands” of learning under two structural pillars of practice and theory.
The branches of topics vary from asana and meditation through methodology and application. This method of learning has taken years to refine and now provides a stable platform for learning on mental and physical levels.

Kosta Miachin
Founder & Lead Yoga Teacher
Kosta’s journey into yoga has taken him to the far reaches of the world, from remote Himalayan ashrams, to his initiation by a master monk in a sacred Sak-Yant ceremony in Thailand. Kosta has undergone extensive training and was certified with five different schools: Yoga 23, Sivananda Yoga, Mysore Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, Andiappan Yoga and Universal Yoga and maintains close ties to many other yoga schools around the world. The vision for Vikasa Yoga was born upon realization that the deeper dimension of yoga is a spiritual journey and a conscious evolution of the individual. Seeing this as the ultimate human endeavor, he committed his life to supporting others on this path and has been teaching yoga for over 20 years now.

Michael Murray
Yoga Teacher & Group Dynamics
While initially drawn to the physical aspects of yoga, Michael remains stimulated by the interplay between the physical practice and the more spiritual, inner-journey that can be opened up by the physical practice. In pursuit of this interplay, Michael teaches correct alignment and intuitive movement and also facilitates discussions and lectures on emotional intelligence and personal development.

Vikasa mornings are magical with meditation and practice before a robust brunch in a community setting at the Vikasa Life Cafe. Throughout the day, you’ll have a mix of structured group activities such as lectures or workshops, as well as solo downtime and freedom to explore this island paradise. There are 6 days of training per week with 1 day off, usually Sunday. End each day with a relaxing lemongrass tea listening to the island breeze. Sample our YTT for free online to get a taste of daily life at Vikasa. The sound of the tropical birds, the taste of the fresh fruits and the aroma of the flowers? You'll just have to imagine those for now.
