The Vikasa Yoga Method
The Best Yoga Teacher Training
Key principles and rules of yoga are taught, allowing the teachers and dedicated practitioners to gain in-depth understanding, knowledge and insight into the methodology and the effects of yoga practice. Our approach encourages integration with society in a modern context. Our teaching modules each represent a pillar of the Vikasa Yoga Method: Mind, Body and Energy. These three pillars, when taught together, create a well-rounded yoga education with emphasis on the development of the individual.
Tried and Tested Curriculum with Lasting Results
Our approach is further defined by the 5 shells or layers known as “koshas” physical, energetic, emotional, mental and spiritual. We like to think of our curriculum as two “hands” of learning under two structural pillars of practice and theory.
The branches of topics vary from asana and meditation through methodology and application. This method of learning has taken years to refine and now provides a stable platform for learning on mental and physical levels.
Download the Yoga Teacher Training Guide below to sample the curriculum before you arrive. Read more about the Vikasa Method, our signature style of yoga, here.

Kosta’s journey into yoga has taken him to the far reaches of the world, from remote Himalayan ashrams, to his initiation by a master monk in a sacred Sak-Yant ceremony in Thailand. Kosta has undergone extensive training and was certified with five different schools: Yoga 23, Sivananda Yoga, Mysore Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, Andiappan Yoga and Universal Yoga and maintains close ties to many other yoga schools around the world. The vision for Vikasa Yoga was born upon realization that the deeper dimension of yoga is a spiritual journey and a conscious evolution of the individual. Seeing this as the ultimate human endeavor, he committed his life to supporting others on this path and has been teaching yoga for over 20 years now.

Kara’s love and curiosity for movement began at a young age with her passion for dance. Through her training and career she was guided to the physical practice of yoga. It wasn’t until completing her teacher training with the Vikasa academy she understood it was so much more. Able to finally breathe fully and deeply, Kara continued to educate herself and share her learnings with others across the world. She believes to move and live within the world you must have a curiosity to explore and play within your inner world. She will guide you to deepen your understanding of the physical body so that you can tune into your mental and emotional intelligence, encouraging you to reduce unnecessary tension and pain; finding joy and clarity in all aspects of your practice. Kara’s classes integrate her love of anatomy and alignment, moving you through challenging sequences that enable you to be fully present.

Your Mexico Yoga Teacher Training Location
Mar de Jade is a Wellness Resort & Yoga Retreat Center nestled between the tropical jungle and the pristine sandy beach of Chacala, Mexico. This is an intimate place offering a relaxing, supportive, and inspiring environment in a peaceful village with plenty of charm that still retains a traditional way of life. This location has easy access to Puerto Vallarta International Airport, just 90 minutes south, yet feels worlds apart from the big tourist areas.

Chacala is the most pristine and picturesque bay in the Riviera Nayarit, with golden sand, coconut trees, and palapa (thatched-roof) restaurants along the shore, surrounded by tropical jungle mountainsides. The town’s unhurried lifestyle is complemented by the welcoming and friendly attitude of locals.

Within the lush grounds of Mar de Jade, take a refreshing dip in the large swimming pool, wading pool, or Jacuzzi nestled amidst banana trees, bougainvillea flowers, and palm trees. Watch the sunset over the ocean from a reclining beach chair or take a nap in a hammock under the shade of the thatched-roof palapa. Wander on the paths lining the tropical hotel grounds and visit the herb garden, then step right onto Chacala Beach for swimming, paddle-boarding, or kayaking.
The yoga sala offers hardwood floors, ocean views, and floor to ceiling windows and are airy and filled with natural light. El Templo, the largest sala, is a spacious 1,900 square foot hall with an ocean view and a large terrace that looks onto the gardens. Yoga mats, blocks, straps and blankets; meditation cushions are all provided.
Amidst one of the exotic and quiet gardens there is a large outdoor Jacuzzi, a cold plunge pool and chaise lounge chairs. On the second level, there are private treatment rooms with gorgeous jungle views where you can feel pampered with a relaxing massage or beauty treatment. Follow a secret path through palm trees to visit the Temazcal, an ancient Aztec sweat lodge, for a guided ceremony. This Mexican tradition has been kept alive since pre-Hispanic times as a means to purify the body and mind. This special ceremony will form one of the most unique elements of our Mexico training.

Yoga Teacher Trainings can be literally life-changing / Earth-shattering experiences; and that’s all down to the beautiful souls they attract. It was the best gift I could have given myself
Throughout our course we were guided by experienced teachers who practice what they preach, took a deep dive into yoga history, philosophy, the asanas and last but not, into ourselves. The sunrise was a constant companion during our morning practice, followed by brunch overlooking the ocean. Even though we had a packed schedule every day, we made sure to find time for a quick dip in the pool in between lectures. This experience would not have been so special and close to my heart, if I had not chosen Vikasa. I will definitely be returning.

The most incredible bubble of paradise
The location is spectacular, the sunrises are stunning from wherever you are, the teaching and care, attention and love for all of the students was just incredible. It’s hard to describe the passion and support that is given consistently through a challenging but highly rewarding training experience. I went to Vikasa to develop my practice. I had no idea I would feel so transformed, revitalized, energized and cared for. This is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done for myself. I highly recommend this beautiful, unique place and the yoga training experience.
Georgie
I highly recommend Vikasa as a place to learn to teach yoga
The format of the course is structured, while still allowing time to build relationships with fellow students, explore the beautiful location, rest, and study. The teachers really excel in their fields and are all still continuously learning and expanding their own practices. After my YTT I felt inspired and ready to begin teaching, which surprised me since my original intention was to just expand my own personal practice. We had a really great group dynamic and months later we are visiting each other around the world and cheering each other on over social media.

Learning + Lifestyle
Vikasa means “evolution” in Sanskrit. To evolve, means to fine tune your self-awareness and commitment to constant improvement. Whether that’s in your personal relationships, your work or your health.
Personal evolution gives you the ability to create your life according to your deepest values and unique vision. It is your truth emerging from deep within, rather than living from your head and the programmed thoughts of your belief system. We place emphasis on the individual in the context of society. Our approach to learning and teaching yoga is based on individual empowerment and evolution. It takes influences from authentic Hatha Yoga lineages, Himalayan Buddhism, Taoism practices and modern science.

Our training starts with a strong physical foundation, evolving into energetic, mental, emotional and spiritual practice.
We value authenticity and logic with a focus on self-love and evolution, meaning the teachings are designed to stand up in the context of our modern-day lifestyle.
Our learning methodology is known for being ‘Intelligent Freestyle.’ Although we practice traditional yoga based on ancient lineages such as Hatha Yoga and Himalayan Vinyasa, we teach students to adapt and evolve their practice to fit modern day life.
This means our students become free from strict practices and dogma, enabling them to adapt their yoga classes or their practice to suit their own personality, style or needs. It also includes various sub-styles, such as Yin Yoga, as part of a holistic health and wellness program.
