Key principles and rules of yoga are taught, allowing the teachers and dedicated practitioners to gain in-depth understanding, knowledge and insight into the methodology and the effects of yoga practice. Our approach encourages integration with society in a modern context. Our teaching modules each represent a pillar of the Vikasa Yoga Method: Mind, Body and Energy. These three pillars, when taught together, create a well-rounded yoga education with emphasis on the development of the individual.

The unique curriculum that has been tried and tested over the years, ever-evolving with lasting results.

Our approach is further defined by the 5 shells or layers known as “koshas” physical, energetic, emotional, mental and spiritual. We like to think of our curriculum as two “hands” of learning under two structural pillars of practice and theory.

The branches of topics vary from asana and meditation through methodology and application. This method of learning has taken years to refine and now provides a stable platform for learning on mental and physical levels.

Selecting The Perfect Yoga Teacher Training

Our Yoga Teacher Training guide helps you determine your unique goals and experience level to set your intention for the next steps on your yoga path.

Choosing a Yoga Teacher Training can be daunting. After hundreds of inquiries for advice about choosing the right Yoga Teacher Training, you might want to spend more time reading through all the materials, as it is a lot.

Also, you might be interested in the series of emails that will follow, where Kosta will share his personal journey.

This unique course is taught by Kosta Miachin and aims to reconcile the divide between the humility of yoga and the necessity of capital. Many of our students go on to open yoga studios of their own, while others opt to teach at festivals around the world. Some of our 200 hour students don’t follow a teaching path at all, instead enjoying the training as an exotic opportunity for deep personal growth.

Founder & Lead Yoga Teacher

Kosta’s journey into yoga has taken him to the far reaches of the world, from remote Himalayan ashrams, to his initiation by a master monk in a sacred Sak-Yant ceremony in Thailand. Kosta has undergone extensive training and was certified with five different schools: Yoga 23, Sivananda Yoga, Mysore Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, Andiappan Yoga and Universal Yoga and maintains close ties to many other yoga schools around the world. The vision for Vikasa Yoga was born upon realization that the deeper dimension of yoga is a spiritual journey and a conscious evolution of the individual. Seeing this as the ultimate human endeavor, he committed his life to supporting others on this path and has been teaching yoga for over 20 years now.

While initially drawn to the physical aspects of yoga, Michael remains stimulated by the interplay between the physical practice and the more spiritual, inner-journey that can be opened up by the physical practice. In pursuit of this interplay, Michael teaches correct alignment and intuitive movement and also facilitates discussions and lectures on emotional intelligence and personal development.

Niki believes that yoga can be life-changing, both on an individual and a collective level. And so her teaching, which she sees as her vocation, is focussed on tapping into yoga’s transformative capacity and providing a means for her students to embark on journeys of self-discovery. She has a background in psychology and an unwavering belief in the importance of combining the physical aspects of yoga with the often neglected spiritual aspects.

Bonus Workshop with Daniel Rama

Introduction to inversions and arm balances

In July we are excited to welcome Vikasa guest teacher Daniel Rama to offer a bonus workshop on inversions. If you’ve checked Rama’s instagram account, you may have seen a lot of impressive yoga asana shots. Rama will help you to break down some more advanced postures so you can approach them from a foundational level. This will not only offer you a solid base from which you can easily advance, it will also support the way you approach your yoga practice in general. Best of all, if you plan to step into teaching, you’ll have a few inversion poses you can confidently offer your own students.

Our Student Reviews

Yoga Teacher Trainings are not just about getting a certificate – you’re getting a community. Yoga Teacher Trainings can be literally life-changing / Earth-shattering experiences; and that’s all down to the beautiful souls they attract. We encourage prospective students to reach out to Vikasa alumni on social networks and ask them for their unbiased review. Here are just a few:

It was the best gift I could have given myself

Throughout our 4-week course we were guided by experienced teachers who practice what they preach, took a deep dive into yoga history, philosophy, the asanas and last but not, into ourselves. The sunrise was a constant companion during our morning practice, followed by brunch overlooking the ocean. Even though we had a packed schedule every day, we made sure to find time for a quick dip in the infinity pool in between lectures. This experience would not have been so special and close to my heart, if I had not chosen Vikasa. I will definitely be returning.

Judit

The most incredible bubble of paradise

The location of Vikasa is spectacular, the sunrises are stunning from wherever you are, the teaching and care, attention and love for all of the students was just incredible. It’s hard to describe the passion and support that is given consistently through a challenging but highly rewarding experience. I went to Vikasa to develop my practice. I had no idea I would feel so transformed, revitalized, energized and cared for. This is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done for myself. Highly recommend this beautiful, unique place and experience.

Georgie

I highly recommend Vikasa as a place to learn to teach yoga

The format of the course is structured, while still allowing time to build relationships with fellow students, explore the beautiful island, rest, and study. The teachers really excel in their fields and are all still continuously learning and expanding their own practices. After a month at Vikasa I felt inspired and ready to begin teaching, which surprised me since my original intention was to just expand my own personal practice. We had a really great group dynamic and months later we are visiting each other around the world and cheering each other on over social media.

Learning + Lifestyle

Vikasa means “evolution” in Sanskrit. To evolve, means to fine tune your self-awareness and commitment to constant improvement. Whether that’s in your personal relationships, your work or your health.

Personal evolution gives you the ability to create your life according to your deepest values and unique vision. It is your truth emerging from deep within, rather than living from your head and the programmed thoughts of your belief system. We place emphasis on the individual in the context of society. Our approach to learning and teaching yoga is based on individual empowerment and evolution. It takes influences from authentic Hatha Yoga lineages, Himalayan Buddhism, Taoism practices and modern science.

Vikasa is located in Koh Samui, Thailand. Vikasa is located in the south east of the island, close to Lamai and approximately 20 minutes by taxi from Koh Samui International Airport (USM).

The best way to get to Vikasa is to fly into Koh Samui International Airport (USM). There are daily flights into Koh Samui from Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and others. Alternatively, the Vikasa team can also arrange your pick up from the airport. Flying is the quickest route, but tourists and yoga enthusiasts can also travel by train and ferry which takes approximately 13.5 hours.

This will depend on where you are from. For details of Thailand’s visa arrangements with specific countries see here.
Although tourist visas are generally required, there is an exemption for travelers from 30 countries (Australia, UK, USA, France, Germany, Sweden and others) who wish to travel to Thailand for 30 days or less. If you are a citizen of one of these countries you do not need to obtain a visa. Note that if you plan to stay for longer than 30 days, it is possible to obtain a short extension from the immigration office on Koh Samui at some point during your stay.
If you are not a citizen of one of the countries with which Thailand has specific visa exemption or waiver arrangements, you will need to obtain a 30, 60 or 90 day tourist visa before arriving in Thailand

The Foundation 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training is suitable for all levels, anyone is welcome to join the foundation training at Vikasa.

Yoga clothes, tropical climate clothes, and swimwear. Yoga mats and props and towels are all provided. You may want to add an excursion to your program such as a waterfall hike, in which case a pair of sneakers would also be handy.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a certificate confirming that you have completed a 200 Hour Foundation Yoga Teacher Training Course. This certificate entitles you to be registered with Yoga Alliance as an “RYT 200”. With this certificate you are qualified to teach group yoga classes.

Koh Samui is a beautiful tropical island located in the Gulf of Thailand.  It is approximately 90 minutes from the mainland via ferry, but is easily accessible via airplane.  It has key infrastructure such as a small international airport, good medical facilities (including hospitals), banking facilities (including ATMs), good wifi coverage and good roads.  It is possible to drive around the entire island in around 90 minutes, and visitors generally either travel via scooter or taxi as walking is difficult.  Vikasa is located between Chaweng Noi and Lamai in a quiet area of the island. It is possible to walk from Vikasa to nearby beaches, but guests generally stay on the Vikasa premises or rent scooters or taxis for trips to nearby markets and shopping malls. The weather is generally hot year round, with temperatures often around 30 degrees celsius. This breathtaking island provides a perfect environment for practicing yoga due to its remote setting, natural surroundings, beautiful beaches, and untouched seas.

We recommend that participants download the free lifestyle guide and read up on the Vikasa Lifestyle before arrival. If you don’t have time to read it that’s alright too, simply bring an open mind and an open heart.

Absolutely! We welcome many people on our yoga training programs that have no intention of teaching and simply love committing to a beautiful month immersing in yoga and wellness on a tropical island with an incredible like-minded community. We believe this training is something that can deeply and profoundly benefit everyone.
