Learn At Vikasa Yoga Retreat

The curriculum for the 100 hour Refresh Retreat is based on the fundamentals of our famous 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training. We’ve boiled our complex 200 hours worth of training into the bare essentials, giving the student a chance to experience some of the topics we would normally cover in an efficient and approachable way. Daily asana and meditation practice give a grounded sense of routine while specific lectures and workshops allow for more focused learning.

The Vikasa Yoga Method

Vikasa means evolution when translated from Sanskrit. The Vikasa Yoga Method is based on individual evolution and development.

Nature is in a constant state of change. Our primary goal is evolution, and yoga can be seen as a tool to facilitate that. The Vikasa Yoga Method is an integral system of yoga based on classical Hatha yoga lineages, with some influence from Himalayan Buddhism and Taoism practices. The method is based on universal rules of yoga that ultimately allow the practitioner to develop highly intelligent and mindful practice. Our training starts with a physical foundation, evolving into energetic, mental, and emotional development.

Meet The Teachers

The 100 Hour Refresh Retreat is taught by Kosta Miachin, the founder of Vikasa along with his team of senior level yoga teachers. Our team is an eclectic group of international yogis with a variety of strengths and styles. All Vikasa teachers have graduated from Yoga Teacher Trainings with a minimum of 200 hour teaching certification recognized by the Yoga Alliance.

Kosta

Founder & Yoga Teacher

Kosta’s journey into yoga has taken him to the far reaches of the world, from remote Himalayan ashrams, to his initiation by a master monk in a sacred Sak-Yant ceremony in Thailand. Kosta has undergone extensive training and was certified with five different schools: Yoga 23, Sivananda Yoga, Mysore Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, Andiappan Yoga and Universal Yoga and maintains close ties to many other yoga schools around the world. The vision for Vikasa Yoga was born upon realization that the deeper dimension of yoga is a spiritual journey and a conscious evolution of the individual. Seeing this as the ultimate human endeavor, he committed his life to supporting others on this path.

Guest Experiences

We think our Yoga Teacher Trainings are pretty special, but don’t take our word for it. Check out these testimonials from our past guests to get a sense of the transformation they experienced.

Training In Paradise At Vikasa Yoga Retreat

The Refresh Retreat takes place in our paradise at Vikasa Yoga Retreat – our paradise on the tropical island of Koh Samui, in the Gulf of Thailand.
This location is easily accessible with direct flights from all major hubs in Southeast Asia such as Hong Kong, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Once you’ve arrived, our team will pick you up at USM Samui international airport. Vikasa was specially selected as a place for transformation due to its ideal balance of secluded island paradise, healthy, freshly-prepared food and 4 world class yoga salas constructed in a beautiful setting and designed to get results. Each week, you’ll also be able to fully explore the stunning, green, natural surroundings of Koh Samui, with its abundance of waterfalls, white-sand beaches and dense jungle, on your day off. Plus, you’ll have full access to all resort facilities including Wi-Fi, Infinity Pool, Spa, and acclaimed Vikasa Life Café.

Where will I stay during the training?

Vikasa offers several types of accommodation ranging from simple eco-friendly bamboo bungalows to full-sized hotel style rooms. We are not a one-size-fits-all kind of place. We believe this range of accommodation allows for a wider range of students to attend the course.

Our rooms celebrate simplicity, with minimal decorations. There are no TVs or fancy mini bars filled with chocolate and alcohol, but hopefully that’s not what you’ll come here for. We are a relaxed establishment where you can unplug and reconnect to something deeper in a meaningful way. As you will notice some of our room options have a “+” which means they are a little bit bigger or nicer than the standard category.

A few tips for choosing your perfect room: If you like to stay close to the beach, check out our red-roofed Prana Cabanas. If you prefer a garden location with a village feeling, try the Zen Bungalows. If you don’t want to walk down too many stairs, the Yoga Caves could be a good option for you. If you need a bit of extra space and a central location, the Lotus Pads are a good place to start.

Frequently Asked Questions

Browse the FAQ or get in touch with one of our instructors for personal assistance.

Vikasa is located in Koh Samui, Thailand. Vikasa is located in the south east of the island, close to Lamai and approximately 20 minutes by taxi from Koh Samui International Airport (USM).

The best way to get to Vikasa is to fly into Koh Samui International Airport (USM).  There are daily flights into Koh Samui from Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and others. Alternatively, the Vikasa team can also arrange your pick up from the airport. Flying is the quickest route, but tourists and yoga enthusiasts can also travel by train and ferry which takes approximately 13.5 hours.

This will depend on where you are from.  For details of Thailand’s visa arrangements with specific countries see here.

Although tourist visas are generally required, there is an exemption for travelers from 30 countries (Australia, UK, USA, France, Germany, Sweden and others) who wish to travel to Thailand for 30 days or less.  If you are a citizen of one of these countries you do not need to obtain a visa.  Note that if you plan to stay for longer than 30 days, it is possible to obtain a short extension from the immigration office on Koh Samui at some point during your stay.

If you are not a citizen of one of the countries with which Thailand has specific visa exemption or waiver arrangements, you will need to obtain a 30, 60 or 90 day tourist visa before arriving in Thailand

Anyone is welcome to join this 100 Hour Yoga Retreat. It is ideally designed for people who want to experience a yoga immersion without the pressures of a certification. It is also designed for yoga teachers to come and refresh their practice and wisdom in a supportive and inspiring environment.

Yoga clothes, tropical climate clothes, and swimwear. Yoga mats and props and towels are all provided. You may want to add an excursion to your program such as a waterfall hike, in which case a pair of sneakers would also be handy.

You will receive a Certificate of Completion of 100 Hours of Training. This course constitutes 100 YACEP (or continuing education) Hours which can be registered with Yoga Alliance. This course alone does not qualify you to teach yoga – you need to have also completed a 200 Hour Foundation YTT course in order to qualify as a certified yoga teacher.

Koh Samui is a beautiful tropical island located in the Gulf of Thailand.  It is approximately 90 minutes from the mainland via ferry, but is easily accessible via airplane.  It has key infrastructure such as a small international airport, good medical facilities (including hospitals), banking facilities (including ATMs), good wifi coverage and good roads.  It is possible to drive around the entire island in around 90 minutes, and visitors generally either travel via scooter or taxi as walking is difficult.  Vikasa is located between Chaweng Noi and Lamai in a quiet area of the island.  It is possible to walk from Vikasa to nearby beaches, but guests generally stay on the Vikasa premises or rent scooters or taxis for trips to nearby markets and shopping malls. The weather is generally hot year round, with temperatures often around 30 degrees celsius. This breathtaking island provides a perfect environment for practicing yoga due to its remote setting, natural surroundings, beautiful beaches, and untouched seas.

We recommend that participants download the free lifestyle guide and read up on the Vikasa Lifestyle before arrival. If you don’t have time to read it that’s alright too, simply bring an open mind and an open heart.

The promotional offer of $250 off is available for the first 5 people to sign up. Check the upcoming dates at the top of this page, if the promotion is available, it will be stated in green next to the date. Otherwise, you may also contact us for confirmation.
