Alexey Vyazovov

Alex was initiated into the practice of yogic meditation at the age of 16 and remained fully immersed in the practice for several years to realize its essence. He later started to teach meditation, philosophy and yoga classes sharing the knowledge of self-realized yogis along with his own experience and insights received during his apprenticeship and years of daily study and practice. Alex has trained over fifty 200HR and 300HR Yoga Teacher Trainings apart from dozens of advanced Yoga courses and workshops both online and in person.

A Balanced Approach to Stillness

Perhaps you’ve heard of Vipassana experiences that take place in monasteries or caves in exotic places. We think those are amazing experiences, but they come with their own challenges. This will be a fully silent retreat, reaping all the benefits of an immersive meditation experience, without giving up daily conveniences such as a comfortable bed and delicious healthy food. In addition to popular mindfulness practices originally created by monks and for monks, you will learn rarely taught techniques specifically designed for people living a socially engaged life. Participants will hand in their phones and devices on the first evening and be in silence until the end of the retreat. Enjoy a simple group yoga practice to warm up each morning and greet the day. Every afternoon there will be a philosophy talk, allowing the mind the time and space it needs to truly deepen into awareness. Participants can enjoy the scheduled program which allows for downtime while providing lots of structure. Wind down the evening and let go of the day with special treats such as gong bathing, candle gazing or singing bowls.

Your Daily Schedule

The daily life at Vikasa starts with the sound of tropical birds as the sun rises over our east-facing hillside home. Every day will start with breathwork and meditation, creating a morning routine and ritual you will be able to take home with you as a tailored self practice, followed by a robust healthy brunch. Each day has a balance of immersive practice and exercises. There will also be space to relax, reflect and journal.

Our Yoga Retreat Paradise

The Silent Retreat takes place at Vikasa Yoga Retreat, our paradise on the tropical island of Koh Samui, in the Gulf of Thailand.

This location is easily accessible with direct flights from major hubs in Southeast Asia or a shuttle flight from Bangkok arriving nearly every hour. Our team will pick you up at USM, Samui International Airport. Vikasa is the perfect balance of a secluded yet accessible island paradise. We have some of the largest yoga facilities in South East Asia including 4 world-class yoga salas which allow you to practice over the open ocean. Vikasa is located on Koh Samui, which is an island in the Gulf of Thailand. Vikasa is in the south east corner of the island, in between Chaweng Noi and Lamai. Vikasa is a 20 minute drive from Koh Samui International Airport (USM) and a 35 minute drive from the Nathon and Lipa Noi ferry terminals.

The best way to get to Vikasa is to fly into Koh Samui International Airport (USM).  There are daily flights into Koh Samui from Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and others.  We will arrange your pick up from the airport.

Although tourist visas are generally required, there is an exemption for travellers from 30 countries (Australia, UK, USA, France, Germany, Sweden and others) who wish to travel to Thailand for 30 days or less. If you are a citizen of one of these countries you do not need to obtain a visa. Note that if you plan to stay for longer than 30 days, it is possible to obtain a short extension from the immigration office on Koh Samui at some point during your stay.

If you are not a citizen of one of the countries with which Thailand has specific visa exemption or waiver arrangements, you will need to obtain a 30, 60 or 90 day tourist visa before arriving in Thailand

This retreat is suitable for practitioners of all levels

Yoga clothes, tropical climate clothes and swimwear.  Yoga mats and props and towels are all provided. You may want to add an excursion to your program such as a waterfall hike, in which case a pair of sneakers would also be handy. If you want to use the Sky Gym during your stay you’ll need gym clothes too. 

Koh Samui is a beautiful tropical island located in the Gulf of Thailand.  It is approximately 90 minutes from the mainland via ferry, but is easily accessible via airplane.  It has a population of around 70,000 people and has key infrastructure such as a small international airport, good medical facilities (including hospitals), banking facilities (including ATMs), good wifi coverage and good roads.  It is possible to drive around the entire island in around 90 minutes, and visitors generally either travel via scooter or taxi as walking is difficult.  Vikasa is located between Chaweng Noi and Lamai in a quiet area of the island.  It is possible to walk from Vikasa to nearby beaches, but guests generally stay on the Vikasa premises or rent scooters or taxis for trips to nearby markets and shopping malls.  The weather is generally hot year round, with temperatures often around 30 degrees celsius.
