Shakti Bird (Sarah Bonsall)

Shakti began her movement journey with yoga almost 15 years ago and quickly cultivated a deep curiosity about optimizing the human body. It didn’t take long to discover that yoga asana on its own, is not a complete or practical means to movement and overall physical wellness. In search of more, she spent 2 years training and studying closely with an Ido Portal community in Boulder, CO. She was shown and got to experience that movement contains within it the worlds of yoga, hand balancing, meditation, flexibility, dance, strength, martial arts, and so much more. During those years she was exposed to more moments of failure, frustration, improvement, understanding, joy, and humility then ever before. She began picking up skills that she’d never dreamed of and got a taste of what it’s like to move and exist in a way that is not only limitlessly freeing, but pain free. Since then, she has been committed to deepening her studies, expanding her mindset, and demonstrating to others why they might like to do the same.

Oftentimes we are exposed to specialties that actually serve to limit our expansion as movers and also, the very essence of us as human beings. This movement journey will provide you with basic tools that will allow you to expand, communicate and integrate who you really are. You will be invited to draw conclusions in your own practice and find the magic in the seemingly mundane. In the pursuit of finding freedom, come prepared to observe, connect, and move… A LOT. Leave your ego at home.

Your Daily Schedule

The daily life at Vikasa starts with the sound of tropical birds as the sun rises over our east-facing hillside home. Every day will start with a morning practice devised from various movement practices and lineages. Class will be followed by a robust healthy brunch in the Life Cafe. Each day has a balance of masterclasses and movement-based practices, combined with the downtime and space to relax, reflect, journal, visit the spa and follow your bliss.

The Move Retreat takes place at Vikasa Yoga Retreat, our paradise on the tropical island of Koh Samui, in the Gulf of Thailand. This location is easily accessible with direct flights from major hubs in Southeast Asia or a shuttle flight from Bangkok arriving nearly every hour. Our team will pick you up at USM, Samui International Airport. Vikasa is the perfect balance of a secluded yet accessible island paradise. We have some of the largest yoga facilities in South East Asia including 4 world-class yoga salas which allow you to practice over the open ocean. Vikasa has modern facilities that you’ll enjoy such as an infinity pool, private beach, fast wifi, housekeeping, and an incredible healthy cafe.

Vikasa is located on Koh Samui, which is an island in the Gulf of Thailand. Vikasa is in the south east corner of the island, in between Chaweng Noi and Lamai. Vikasa is a 20 minute drive from Koh Samui International Airport (USM) and a 35 minute drive from the Nathon and Lipa Noi ferry terminals.

The best way to get to Vikasa is to fly into Koh Samui International Airport (USM).  There are daily flights into Koh Samui from Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and others.  We will arrange your pick up from the airport.

This will depend on where you are from. For details of Thailand’s visa arrangements with specific countries see here:

Although tourist visas are generally required, there is an exemption for travellers from 30 countries (Australia, UK, USA, France, Germany, Sweden and others) who wish to travel to Thailand for 30 days or less. If you are a citizen of one of these countries you do not need to obtain a visa. Note that if you plan to stay for longer than 30 days, it is possible to obtain a short extension from the immigration office on Koh Samui at some point during your stay.

If you are not a citizen of one of the countries with which Thailand has specific visa exemption or waiver arrangements, you will need to obtain a 30, 60 or 90 day tourist visa before arriving in Thailand

This program is designed for complete beginners to novices or those with limited experience. Personal programs are a great way to start from the beginning and learn correct habits and techniques. 

Yoga clothes, tropical climate clothes and swimwear.  Yoga mats and props and towels are all provided. You may want to add an excursion to your program such as a waterfall hike, in which case a pair of sneakers would also be handy. If you want to use the Sky Gym during your stay you’ll need gym clothes too. 

Koh Samui is a beautiful tropical island located in the Gulf of Thailand.  It is approximately 90 minutes from the mainland via ferry, but is easily accessible via airplane.  It has a population of around 70,000 people and has key infrastructure such as a small international airport, good medical facilities (including hospitals), banking facilities (including ATMs), good wifi coverage and good roads.  It is possible to drive around the entire island in around 90 minutes, and visitors generally either travel via scooter or taxi as walking is difficult.  Vikasa is located between Chaweng Noi and Lamai in a quiet area of the island.  It is possible to walk from Vikasa to nearby beaches, but guests generally stay on the Vikasa premises or rent scooters or taxis for trips to nearby markets and shopping malls.  The weather is generally hot year round, with temperatures often around 30 degrees celsius.

We recommend that participants download the free lifestyle guide and read up on the Vikasa Lifestyle before arrival. If you don’t have time to read it that’s ok too, we will review some content during your program. 

Absolutely! This retreat is for everyone, those who are brand new to raw food or plant based living as well as those that may be more well versed or experienced with this style of cuisine and lifestyle. Come with an open mind and open heart!

All food will be free from gluten and dairy, all vegan and made with nothing artificial. Food is all 100% wholefoods right from nature! If you have any other food intolerances, please let us know in the application form. This retreat will use nuts.

For sure! If you’re keen on the food but not the yoga classes that is fine, everything is optional. You are welcome to come along and enjoy the pool, beach or island adventures instead of yoga if you prefer. We do believe that yoga and healthy eating go hand in hand and we may suggest you might like to try a class or two- however this is 100% up to you. You have unlimited access to yoga classes for the whole week if you choose to go.

Yes! You will have recipes to take home with you so that you can continue your healthy food journey and new healthy routines back home again.
