The Vikasa Yoga Method

Our signature method starts with a strong physical foundation, evolving into an energetic, mental, emotional and spiritual practice.

Anchored in the traditional Hatha yoga lineage, the Vikasa Method offers a strong yet accessible yoga practice with a keen focus on breath, energetics and a shift from the external to the internal. Classes are characterized by long asana holds, slow but graceful, flowing movement, closed eyes and verbal cues to guide the breath and encourage inner reflection and contemplation. This is a challenging practice due to the number of elements at play in any given pose or moment. Our Vikasa Complete classes always begin with meditation, pranayama and yoga kriyas or cleansing rituals, before moving into a full asana practice and ending with an integral and lengthy savasana. To enhance the immersive experience of the practice, our Vikasa music has been digitally mastered to support the connection between your breath, mental state and focus.

“Yoga isn't something you do. Yoga is your natural state.”

Modern life constantly takes us away from our inherent natural state of being – we are frequently stressed, anxious and unbalanced. Our mind is constantly in the future or ruminating on the past. We are very rarely present, focused, calm or clear. In a Vikasa class, many elements combine to bring you into a state of present awareness and to help you find that state of peace, focus and deep relaxation that is becoming more and more elusive in modern society. Ultimately, yoga is meditation in which we learn how to harness and naturally control our attention. Those introduced to the Vikasa Method attest to the power of this practice.

This unique method has been tried and tested over the years, ever-evolving with lasting results.

In our yoga teacher training programs, the key principles, authentic philosophies and often-forgotten practices of yoga are taught, allowing aspiring teachers and dedicated practitioners to gain in-depth understanding, knowledge and insight into the methodology and the effects of this unique yoga practice. Our teaching modules each represent a pillar of the Vikasa Yoga Method: Mind, Body and Energy. These three pillars, when taught together, create a well-rounded yoga experience and yoga education with an emphasis on the development and advancement of the individual.

While adhering to the rich, expansive and proven techniques and teachings of traditional yoga, the Vikasa Method encourages integration with society in a modern context. This is a practice for all levels and when done with commitment and dedication, this practice inspires personal development and personal evolution.

We believe that every evolution starts with just one person. If you change yourself, you can change the world.

Our approach is further defined by the 5 shells or layers known as “koshas”: physical, energetic, emotional, mental and spiritual. During our teacher training programs, topics range from asana and meditation, to methodology and application, to emotional intelligence and personal development. This method of learning has taken years to refine and now provides a stable platform for learning, encouraging yoga students to transition into confident, assured yoga teachers in their own right. Students leave ready to teach, with a solid foundation that can, with time and experience, be customized to their unique style of teaching, without losing the pillars of the practice that make it so accessible, enjoyable and beneficial. This style of yoga is the perfect foundation and preparation for all methods of practice and teaching, including faster-paced vinyasa styles. We’ve certified over a thousand students in the Vikasa Method, and we welcome guests weekly to experience the transformational effects of this style of yoga through our yoga vacations, yoga retreats and personal wellness programs in Koh Samui, Thailand.

The most immersive, insightful and all-encompassing experience of yoga I’ve ever known.

Every week, every training, every class, we have guests and students share with us the incredible insights, benefits and transformations that they experience through this unique style of yoga. Unlike other yoga classes, the Vikasa Method offers a deep immersion into the full practice of yoga so you can truly tap into the power of yoga, meditation and pranayama. For those new to this style of yoga, the experience can be very awakening.

I changed my teaching style after a training at Vikasa

As I reflect on my physical yoga practice, I can’t help but marvel at the skills, strength, and stability I’ve gained. But more astonishing is the metamorphosis slowly unfolding within my mental, emotional, and spiritual faculties. The healing that unfolded during my time at Vikasa was nothing short of miraculous. Through the guidance of these incredible teachers, I unearthed layers of myself that I had long forgotten or buried. I discovered an inner well of resilience, confidence and inner peace I never knew I possessed. The journey has only just begun for me, but the imprint that Vikasa has made within my heart will forever fuel me.

Yoga Teacher Training in Thailand was an amazing experience.

I’ve been to many different classes in different countries and nothing tops Vikasa’s classes. What’s inspiring about the physical practice is that it serves everyone with different variations, so if you’re a beginner or if you’re already a yoga teacher, you will still get so much out of each class and benefit the same. The yoga taught at Vikasa is both on and off the mat. What I find so special about this place is how the teachers practice what they preach, and nothing is more inspiring. Best of all, never have experienced deeper savasanas anywhere else. once you’re there, your body is grounded yet you’re mentally floating in space.

I can’t wait to share everything with my students back home.

I’ve been practicing yoga for many years, yet when I started Vikasa classes it was the first time I really felt like I had discovered what yoga truly was. The classes are very powerful and I feel it is a combination of the long holds, the closed eyes, the music, the teaching cues and the complete nature of the classes that make them so immersive and transformative. The ‘yoga high’ after a Vikasa class is like nothing I have experienced before either! One class fuels you for an entire day and consecutively, over time, the classes up-level your mindset and mental resilience, as well as your physical strength and flexibility.

Some of our 200 hour students don’t follow a teaching path at all, instead enjoying the training as an exotic opportunity for deep personal growth.
