Our Advanced Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) starts with a strong physical foundation, evolving into energetic, mental, emotional and spiritual practice. Key principles and rules of yoga are taught, allowing the teachers and dedicated practitioners to gain in-depth understanding, knowledge and insight into the methodology and the effects of yoga practice. Our approach encourages integration with society in a modern context.
Our teaching modules each represent a pillar of the Vikasa Yoga Method, mind body and energy. These three pillars, when taught together, create a well-rounded yoga education with emphasis on the development of the individual. This unique curriculum has been tried and tested over the years, ever-evolving with lasting results. Our approach is further defined by the 5 shells or layers known as “koshas” physical, energetic, emotional, mental and spiritual.
We like to think of our curriculum as two “hands” of learning under two structural pillars of practice and theory. The branches of topics vary from asana and meditation through methodology and application. This method of learning has taken decades to refine and now provides a stable platform for learning on mental and physical levels. Choosing an advanced YTT can be daunting. After hundreds of inquiries for advice about choosing the right YTT, we developed this guide to help. It’s a big decision and one that has the power to give you a whole new direction in your career and your life. With self-inquiry, you will learn to get in touch with your true self, realise your true potential, awaken your intuition, stimulate your creativity, feel love and create peace. This unique course is taught by Kosta Miachin and aims to reconcile the divide between the humility of yoga and the necessity of capital. Many of our students go on to open yoga studios of their own, while others opt to teach at festivals around the world.
The 300 hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training is taught by Kosta Miachin, the founder of VIKASA along with his team of senior level yoga teachers and international guest “super star” teachers. This team is an eclectic group of international yogis with a variety of strengths and styles. All VIKASA teachers have graduated from teacher trainings with a minimum of 200 hour teaching certification recognized by the global yoga alliance. Most have experienced several yoga teacher trainings with a variety of styles and focus. Our vast and combined experience will enrich your education and your yoga career. The course is structured around various techniques, vastly ranging according to the expertise of our diverse team. We believe in the power of self initiative, self love and personal evolution. The only way to truly have an impact on the world is to start with the impact of our own vibrations. We believe in the power of community; that a small group of like minded people have the power to change the world.
Kosta’s journey into yoga has taken him to the far reaches of the world, from remote Himalayan ashrams, to his initiation by a master monk in a sacred Sak-Yant ceremony in Thailand. Kosta has undergone extensive training and was certified with five different schools: Yoga 23, Sivananda Yoga, Mysore Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, Andiappan Yoga and Universal Yoga and maintains close ties to many other yoga schools around the world. The vision for Vikasa Yoga was born upon realization that the deeper dimension of yoga is a spiritual journey and a conscious evolution of the individual. Seeing this as the ultimate human endeavor, he committed his life to supporting others on this path.
While initially drawn to the physical aspects of yoga, Michael remains stimulated by the interplay between the physical practice and the more spiritual, inner-journey that can be opened up by the physical practice. In pursuit of this interplay, Michael teaches correct alignment and intuitive movement and also facilitates discussions and lectures on emotional intelligence and personal development.
Niki believes that yoga can be life-changing, both on an individual and a collective level. And so her teaching, which she sees as her vocation, is focussed on tapping into yoga’s transformative capacity and providing a means for her students to embark on journeys of self-discovery. She has a background in psychology and an unwavering belief in the importance of combining the physical aspects of yoga with the often neglected spiritual aspects.
Shakti and Rama of 'Beyond Balance' deliver a multi-faceted and multi-dimensional chapter of the curriculum. Their teachings include discussions, practices and workshops centered around topics such as sound and chanting, meditative process, energetics and functional movement. This module has been intelligently designed to build effectively upward from basic fundamentals to advanced techniques associated with well-rounded sadhana. Students will learn how to deepen their personal practice and leave feeling refreshed, renewed and confident in their abilities moving forward.
Mikey has an encyclopaedic knowledge of all things yoga with particular specialisations in intelligent sequencing, yoga anatomy and efficient movement. He draws on aspects of his former profession as a personal trainer in his practices and teachings - focussing on balancing strength and flexibility with an overarching emphasis on safety. As well as having a broad and deep knowledge of yoga practices and history (having completed a number of trainings with Vikasa and Universal Yoga), he also has a passion for teaching and a talent for making complex concepts accessible to all.
A truly passionate and dedicated yogi, Alex began his journey into Yoga over 20 years ago and committed to realizing the essence of yoga beyond the physical practice. He apprenticed with a Yoga master and remained fully immersed in a wide range of yogic practices for several years. Alex later received spiritual initiation and started to share the knowledge of self-realized yogis along with his own experience and insights received during his apprenticeship and years of daily study and meditations. Alex is a yoga philosophy specialist and teaches the philosophy module of this training.
VIKASA means “evolution” in Sanskrit. To evolve, means to fine tune your self-awareness and commitment to constant improvement. Whether that’s in your personal relationships, your work or your health. Personal evolution gives you the ability to create your life according to your deepest values and unique vision. It is your truth emerging from deep within, rather than living from your head and the programmed thoughts of your belief system. We place emphasis on the individual in the context of society.
Our approach to learning and teaching yoga is based on individual empowerment and evolution. It takes influences from authentic Hatha Yoga lineages, Himalayan Buddhism, Taoism practices and modern science. Our training starts with a strong physical foundation, evolving into energetic, mental, emotional and spiritual practice. We value authenticity and logic with a focus on self-love and evolution, meaning the teachings are designed to stand up in the context of our modern-day lifestyle.
Our learning methodology is known for being ‘Intelligent Freestyle.’ Although we practice traditional yoga based on ancient lineages such as Hatha Yoga and Himalayan Vinyasa, we teach students to adapt and evolve their practice to fit modern day life. This means our students become free from strict practices, enabling them to adapt their yoga classes or their practice to suit their own personality, style or needs. It also includes various sub-styles, such as Yin Yoga, as part of a holistic health and wellness program.
If you’re looking for a yoga teacher training course that not only equips you with the skills and knowledge to expand your practice, but also inspires confidence to follow your dreams and start a yoga school of your own, then Vikasa is the perfect place for you to get started. Even if teaching is not your goal, we know that you are a conscious individual with the desire to expand your practice and lifestyle.
We believe that those who have a position of power have a responsibility to help those in need. We actively reach out to our community and try to improve what we see. That is what at the heart of our teacher training program – equipping you with the skills, knowledge and confidence to connect with others, help others and teach the benefits of yoga so that other may experience the effects.
Your daily schedule for the 300 hour YTT is a healthy mix of immersive practice, enlightening theory and hands-on workshops. The daily life at Vikasa starts with the sound of tropical birds as the sun rises over our east-facing hillside home. Vikasa mornings are magical with meditation and gentle practice before a robust brunch in a community setting at the Vikasa Life Cafe. Throughout the day, you’ll have a mix of structured group activities such as workshops, as well as solo downtime and freedom to explore this island paradise. End each day with a relaxing lemongrass tea listening to the island breeze. This is a sample schedule which may vary slightly from your actual schedule. There are 6 days of training per week with 1 day off, usually Saturday.

Various parts of Thailand (including Koh Samui) are now open to fully-vaccinated tourists without the need for any mandatory quarantine period. In Koh Samui, tourists enter via what is called the ‘Samui Sandbox” program (see below).
If you wish to enter Thailand under the “Samui Sandbox” program (see above) you will need to be fully vaccinated. Thailand currently also allows entry to unvaccinated tourists but these tourists must undergo a mandatory two week hotel quarantine period in Bangkok. We can assist you with this process and provide further information as required.
The “Samui Sandbox” is the program under which fully-vaccinated tourists are currently able to enter Thailand (via Koh Samui) without the need for any mandatory quarantine period. There are a number of criteria that need to be satisfied in order for you to use this program:
Please note that we have significant experience navigating this system and will help you every step of the way.
Vikasa is located on Koh Samui, which is an island in the Gulf of Thailand. Vikasa is in the south east corner of the island, in between Chaweng Noi and Lamai. Vikasa is a 20 minute drive from Koh Samui International Airport (USM) and a 35 minute drive from the Nathon and Lipa Noi ferry terminals.
The best way to get to Vikasa is to fly into Koh Samui International Airport (USM). There are daily flights into Koh Samui from Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and others. We will arrange your pick up from the airport.
This will depend on where you are from. For details of Thailand’s visa arrangements with specific countries see here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_policy_of_Thailand.
Although tourist visas are generally required, there is an exemption for travellers from 30 countries (Australia, UK, USA, France, Germany, Sweden and others) who wish to travel to Thailand for 30 days or less. If you are a citizen of one of these countries you do not need to obtain a visa. Note that if you plan to stay for longer than 30 days, it is possible to obtain a short extension from the immigration office on Koh Samui at some point during your stay.
If you are not a citizen of one of the countries with which Thailand has specific visa exemption or waiver arrangements, you will need to obtain a 30, 60 or 90 day tourist visa before arriving in Thailand
This course is suitable for all levels – from complete beginners to advanced practitioners. We recommend that participants cultivate a regular practice (2 or 3 times per week for 6 months) in the lead up to the course.
In order to qualify for the SHA+ scheme, Vikasa had to ensure that at least 70% of its staff were fully vaccinated. We have gone beyond this requirement and, now, almost 100% of our staff are fully vaccinated. We also had to implement a number of safety measures such as regular hand washing, increased cleaning and temperature screening. Further, noting the above entrance requirements, all of our guests (including our YTT participants) are also either fully vaccinated or have just completed hotel quarantine in Bangkok, and all of our guests under the “Samui Sandbox” program are tested during the first two weeks of their stay. On top of this, most of our guests (YTT participants in particular) tend to be long-stayers and to spend most of their time at VIkasa, thus reducing the potential for COVID transmission. Sanitized yoga mats will be provided at safe distances in our open-air salas which provide a safe way to practice yoga.
If you enter via the “Samui Sandbox” program (see above) then quarantine is not required. You will have to undergo an RT-PCR test immediately upon arrival and are free to leave your hotel room as soon as the (negative” result is returned (generally within 6 hours). If you are not fully vaccinated, you will have to enter via the Bangkok hotel quarantine system and undergo a mandatory two week quarantine period.
This will depend on your home country’s entry requirements. If you’re not sure of these, we can help you look into this.
Yoga clothes and swimwear. You may also wish to bring a white outfit for graduation, although many participants purchase their graduation outfits from the local markets. Yoga mats and props and towels are all provided.
Upon completion of a 300 Hour VIKASA Teacher Training, eligible students will receive a fully accredited Yoga Alliance RYS 300 certificate. Graduates can obtain an RYT-300 OR RYT-500 certification upon successful completion of the course. In order to obtain the RYT-500 certificate, trainees are required to complete all three modules, or five consecutive weeks of training. It will be registered with the international standard of The Yoga Alliance. The certificate you’ll receive on graduation day will allow you to teach yoga anywhere in the world, with an officially certified and universally recognised qualification. Students also qualify for Yoga Alliance Continuing Education contact hours, which can be added onto any hours you may want to gain in future or that you currently have.
Koh Samui is a beautiful tropical island located in the Gulf of Thailand. It is approximately 90 minutes from the mainland via ferry, but is easily accessible via airplane. It has a population of around 70,000 people and has key infrastructure such as a small international airport, good medical facilities (including hospitals), banking facilities (including ATMs), good wifi coverage and good roads. It is possible to drive around the entire island in around 90 minutes, and visitors generally either travel via scooter or taxi as walking is difficult. Vikasa is located between Chaweng Noi and Lamai in a quiet area of the island. It is possible to walk from Vikasa to nearby beaches, but guests generally stay on the Vikasa premises or rent scooters or taxis for trips to nearby markets and shopping malls. The weather is generally hot year round, with temperatures often around 30 degrees celsius.
We recommend that participants cultivate a regular practice (2 or 3 times per week for 6 months) in the lead up to the course. We also recommend that participants read the course material when it is distributed and otherwise take appropriate steps to ensure they can devote themselves to the course for the entire 28 days with only minimal distractions (business and personal) from outside.
In order to implement the “Samui Sandbox” program, Koh Samu had to ensure that more than 75% of its residents were vaccinated prior to reopening (to apparently establish “herd immunity”). This milestone was reached in July this year and Koh Samui now has vaccination coverage well over 75%. On top of this, it is now only possible to enter Koh Samui (both domestically and internationally) with either: (1) proof of full vaccination and a negative RT-PCR test; or (2) proof that you have just left two week hotel quarantine in Bangkok. Given all of the above, Koh Samui has so far managed to avoid the large numbers of cases and hospitalisations seen elsewhere around the world, and in other parts of Thailand. Given its large expat population, Koh Samui also has high quality medical infrastructure, including Bangkok Samui Hospital which is equipped to deal with any COVID-related hospitalisations.
In the unlikely event that you test positive for COVID during your stay then you will be required to undergo a 14 day hotel quarantine period at a “hospitel” (which is just a standard hotel that has been co-opted for quarantine purposes). If you are symptomatic and require treatment you may be transferred to hospital for treatment instead. It is important that you select appropriate insurance to cover you in these unfortunate circumstances (and we will help you with this). We will look after you and do whatever is required to help smooth out what would be a very unfortunate (albeit extremely unlikely) circumstance.
The 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training takes place at VIKASA Yoga Retreat on the tropical island of Koh Samui, off the southern coast of Thailand. It is said to be built upon a bed of rose quartz crystal, giving it a unique healing vibe - perfect for the art of yoga. Koh Samui is a lush, green island and you’ll be surrounded by soothing plant-life such as coconut trees, banana leaves and the perfumed scent of frangipani flowers. You’re never far away from fine, white-sand beaches, clear, azure ocean and breathtaking natural waterfalls set amidst thick jungle.
VIKASA is the ideal healthy lifestyle venue for a yoga training, due to its balance of secluded island paradise, freshly-prepared food and a yoga sala constructed in a beautiful setting and designed to get the best out of students – making it the perfect environment for study. Each week, you’ll also be able to fully explore the stunning natural surroundings of Koh Samui and its abundance of activities including ancient temples, an elephant sanctuary, picturesque fishing villages, street markets and fire shows on the beach, on your day off. Plus, you’ll have full access to all resort facilities including Wi-Fi, infinity pool, spa, Sky Gym and café.
Koh Samui is a popular wellness destination with a healthy vibe. Everyday new efforts are being made to keep Koh Samui environmentally sound and unpolluted. There are three islands clustered in our archipelago: Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. All three islands are located in the gulf of Thailand and each has its own unique vibe. Samui is the largest and has the best infrastructure such as hospitals, schools and roads. There is a large expat community living on the island which creates a mixed vibe of people from all over the world.
