Thailand is known for its many festivals, and Loy Krathong is one of the biggest celebrations. At Vikasa, we have prepared an amazing program to honor this tradition and connect with Thai culture. You will also have the opportunity to connect with our Thai team’s family in sharing this blessing event.

- 7:00-9:00: Flow Yoga in White Prana Sala
- 9:30-11:00: Brunch
- 10:00-18:00: Gratitude Package available for booking at Vita Spa

What is Loy Krathong?
Loy Krathong, also called the ‘Festival of Lights,’ is an annual Thai celebration that falls on the evening of the full moon in the 12th month of the Thai lunar calendar. This year, it will be on Friday, November 15, 2024.
People gather by water to release decorated ‘krathongs,’ small floats with candles, incense, and flowers. The word loy means ‘float,’ and krathong means ‘basket,’ so Loy Krathong translates to ‘float a basket.’
History of Loy Krathong
The festival is believed to be a way to thank Phra Mae Khongkha, the Water Goddess, for rain and to apologize for polluting the waters. It is also a time to wash away past sins and welcome good fortune. Some people place a fingernail or lock of hair in the krathong as a symbol of letting go of negative energy.
Why is Loy Krathong celebrated?
Loy Krathong is as important as Songkran, the Thai New Year. The festival is rooted in traditions of asking forgiveness from the Water Goddess, washing away misfortunes, and welcoming good luck for the coming year.
