THE IDEAL VACATION FOR LONG LASTING BENEFITS
We all love a good vacation. Many of us spend months looking forward to when we can unwind, relax and set our workplace responsibilities aside for just a little while. We revel in the happiness and freedom our time off brings. The new environment and experiences give us the chance to expand our minds and our hearts and we return to work radiating that post-vacation after glow. But relatively soon after that, the glow begins to fade. Day by day it becomes dimmer until we return back to where we began prior to our holiday. This is the cycle we go through, year after year.
What if we could break this cycle? What if there was a way to optimize our time off and integrate that after glow into our daily lives? Questions like these inspired the recent study of “Vacation (after-) effects on employee health and well-being, and the role of vacation activities, experiences and sleep” conducted out of Finland’s University of Tampere. This study found that while the length of the vacation itself appeared to have little impact on how long the ‘after glow’ lasted, the experiences that the vacationer had appeared to have a major impact. According to the research paper published in the ‘Journal of Happiness Studies’, “vacation experiences, especially pleasure, relaxation, savoring and control, seem to be especially important for the strength and persistence of vacation (after-) effects”. These four key components allow you to extend and integrate the feelings of post vacation bliss and all four are a part of the Vikasa Yoga lifestyle!

Brooke Kathleen – Also known as the Unicorn Yogi, Brooke began practicing yoga in 2009. She moved to New York City for work in 2013 and her practice faded out due to the inconsistent hours. In 2017 she re-discovered her practice during a very intense and difficult series of events. After devoting herself to practice for another year she realized that she wanted to learn how to share the tools that yoga had given her to heal and grow with others. She found Vikasa online while researching and fell in love with the curriculum and location. The rest is history! New York, USA
